BOAT IN A BOTTLE & VEGAN ICE-CREAM

Be glad of life, because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars.
Henry van Dyke (1852-1953)

More back yard vistas

Below is the cubby house built for my two daughters around 25 years ago. It has held up quite well. When the house was full I used to enjoy going down there to sit with a book for some peace and quiet.

Cubby house
The view past the cubby house shows the end of the yard. There is a cleared flat area after that belonging to a neighbour and then a creek.

View down back yard
Slightly left of center is an Australian native Bird's-nest fern. The ground cover is Wandering Dew. It is a noxious weed. It is a lush dark green and has little purple flowers. I don't mind a lot of weeds but this one overtakes everything.

Boat in a bottle

On Friday I made one of my regular trips to the Salvation Army Store or the Salvos as they call themselves. I donated a couple of bags of old bric-a-brac and paraphernalia. I spotted this lovely little square rigger in a bottle.

P:-) is very interested in ships and this was interesting so I gave it to him. He placed the boat in the bottle next to the model of the Bounty I bought him before Christmas.

Birthday dinner

My daughter J had her birthday on the 7th January, but since everything was so busy then she decided to have her dinner at my place last Saturday. It was a pleasant night with 9 of us there.

Daughter J brought some of her home made ice-cream. J is vegan, which means she eats no animal products at all - no dairy or eggs. She has become interested in making ice cream and she brought a selection of her vegan ice creams with her.

Vegan ice-cream

She brought 4 flavors. The one in the top left hand corner had an exotic name I can't remember. The one in the top right hand corner was salted caramel. Below that is hazelnut and in the bottom left hand corner was coconut and raspberry. I find them delicious.

She also made some ice-cream tarts, made with pistachio and avocado ice-cream.

Ice-cream tarts

These were delicious and had a lovely nutty shortbread crust.
