TRIP TO MELBOURNE

The principal mark of genius is not perfection but originality, the opening of new frontiers.

P:-) and I are home again from our trip to Melbourne. It was primarily a trip to join family to attend a thanksgiving service for the life of my uncle.

P:-) and I did some sight seeing as well.

I won't tell you all about our trip in this post - just  some general information and then more specific information in posts to come.

My beloved Uncle Jim passed away at the age of 87. Although he and my Aunt lived in Melbourne for the last 20 years, to be with their daughters, I grew up with them in Wollongong and was very close to them. My Uncle Jim was a lovely man and will be greatly missed.

P:-) and I stayed at Wantirna South Caravan Park in our little caravan.

The weather was very mild and dry.

The van travelled well. The trip from Wollongong to Melbourne is about 750 kilometres. While we were there P:-) and I travelled to Sorrento and Portsea on the Mornington Pensinsula; Warburton in the Yarra Valley; Gembrook in the Dandenongs; and St Kilda closer in to the city. We didn't go into the city this trip.

It was very inspiring to see my two cousins with whom I grew up and are similar age to me. They seem to have such joie de vivre and only look about 40.

The trip to Melbourne was a lovely break. Next time with time for a a little more planning I shall get some tips from Jayne at Gleeful. Jayne writes a lovely blog about daily life in Melbourne.

Now it is back to tidying, cleaning, reducing, painting.

I was a teacher until 6 months ago when I was unexepectantly  made redundant after working at the same place for 15 years. Life circumstances mean I have very little superannuation and I am not old enough for a pension so I have to sell my house. I will move in with my mother in the interim and will then probably find myself somewhere very small - a tiny house.

I have been reading a lot about 'tiny houses' and the minimalist life style. I will get a small welfare payment but I am hoping to find a job (not easy at 58) or maybe supplement my income with some tutoring and craft work.

I have lived in the same place for 33 years, so in many ways it is a big adventure.
